It's all about TIME

Time Management

Time is a very precious commodity. When time is up, well, you're dead. OK that's a little morbid, but what if you miss a deadline or miss your goals or just have unproductive days? How can you better manage your time on the things that are most important in your life? You should be able to answer simple questions like; what did you get done today, this week, this year?

If you don't keep track of your time, you should. I like to advise people to start slow with their method of tracking time. Mainly because if it's too much work it will not stick.

Here's my suggestion. Determine 5 or 6 buckets of how to categorize your time. My buckets are:

  • Business Development

  • Client time

  • Client billable time

  • Day to Day

  • Personal

Create a simple method of tracking it each day. I use a spreadsheet, print it out and write in my time. At the end of each day, I transfer that information on to another spreadsheet. At the end of each month I compare my actual time with my planned time and my previous months.

After a few months take a look at where you spend your time. Think about your goals and think about where you can adjust your time to better line up with your goals. Once you have been doing this for a while , think about graduating to software tools like toggl, trigger, or ronin.
