Stop Staring!

I'm having flashbacks to when my mom would tell me to stop staring at someone when I was a kid…but I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about sensory overload. Have you ever looked a little too long into a bright light and it caused a short period of blindness? That's your body sending signals that you have overloaded your sensors and it's too much to handle. This can cause very serious damage if exposure is long enough, and it's nothing to fool with. So what does this have to do with running a business. Let me tell you.

Think of everything that happens in your business as a ray of light. At the beginning the volume is low and it's very manageable. But as the business grows, so do the activities. You're able to handle the overload but you are neglecting other parts of your business. Once you hit a certain level, you become blind to things and problems arise like; cash flow issues, losing money on jobs, less new business, employees leaving. Like staring too long at bright lights, or the sun, this can cause permanent damage to the business.

Here's a few ways to deal with this:

  1. Set aside time each week to reflect on the business.

  2. This is like an ultraviolet screen for the business.rmine if you still have the right personnel.n

  3. Have someone other than yourself build and maintain a dashboard of the business.

    1. This is like a ultraviolet screen for the business.

  4. Don't take on the entire burden all the time.
