Will You Be Great This Year?

Alfred The Great

Santa may ask at the end of the year if you've been good. I want to ask if you've been great? January is named after Janus, the god of beginnings and transitions. What better time to think about being great than right now!

To be good or bad seems so easy to understand, but I'm not sure what it means to be great. Maybe we can get a clue if we take a look at some people that have been labeled great. Here's a few:

  • Catherine the Great: Conqueror of territories, wrote books and literature on how to improve, avid reader, spent time with the thinkers of the era.

  • Alexander the Great: Taught by Aristotle, Influencer, Planner and strategies to win battles.

  • Tom Brady: Strong (but not great) physical talent, relentless work ethic, great teachers, pursuit of perfection

  • Kobe Bryant (R.I.P.) ( I had Michael Jordan in here but I thought I would throw a little love to Kobe): Superior talent, great teachers, driven to strive for perfection.

Maybe it's not so obvious on what it takes to be great. If we take little bit from some of the greats, a good start to being great might be:

  • Relentless pursuit of learning

  • Constant drive for perfection

  • Ability to make those around you better

Have a Great Year!
